🍇 Pošip
A white wine grape from the island of Korčula in Croatia.
Pošip is a white wine grape from the island of Korčula in Croatia. The name is linked with the village of Čara on Korčula, where it is believed to have been found and described. The grape grows in Dalmatia, in the south of the country, and is part of the wine areas of Coastal Croatia and Central and Southern Dalmatia.
Pošip wine is usually dry, pale gold, full and rich. It typically shows aromas of apricot, fig, citrus and herbs, along with pleasant freshness. The vine likes stony soils and a warm climate with sea breezes. The grapes build up sugar, so the wine can be fairly strong. Dessert and sparkling versions also exist.
Pošip is considered the best white grape of Dalmatia and one of the symbols of Croatian wine. It goes well with seafood, fish and local cooking: stewed octopus, shellfish and fresh cheeses. It is served chilled. In recent years Pošip wine has become known outside Croatia, and more and more of it is planted on the islands of Dalmatia.
