🍷 White Port
Port made from white grapes, from dry to very sweet.
White port is a fortified wine from white grapes made in the Douro Valley in Portugal. Like ordinary port, it is made by stopping the fermentation of the juice with grape spirit, so sugar stays in the wine.
White port uses Portuguese white grapes: Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, Gouveio, Rabigato and others. The wine ranges from dry to very sweet. Dry white port is light, with notes of citrus and nuts, and is drunk chilled as an aperitif. Sweet is better with desserts.
There are also aged white ports. They come at 10, 20, 30 and 40 years of age, their colour becomes golden or amber and their taste nutty and complex.
White port is the base of the portonic cocktail: it is mixed with tonic, ice and lemon. It is one kind of port and belongs to Portuguese wine.
