🍷 Sparkling red wine
Red-coloured sparkling wine, such as Lambrusco or sparkling Shiraz.
Sparkling red wine is red wine with bubbles of carbon dioxide. It is rarer than white or rosé sparkling wine and counts as its own style within the sparkling wine group. The best-known examples are Italian Lambrusco and Australian sparkling Shiraz. Lambrusco is made in Emilia-Romagna from several varieties of that family: Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Marani and Lambrusco Oliva. Brachetto d'Acqui from Piedmont is also seen as a similar wine. The colour comes from the skins of black grapes: the juice stays in contact with them until it is tinted. The bubbles appear during a second fermentation, in the bottle or in a closed tank. These wines can be dry or sweet, light or full-bodied. Sparkling red is served chilled. It differs from classic white sparkling wine: it has more tannin and berry notes. Because it is unusual, sparkling red is often chosen for feasts and celebrations, but like any alcohol it should be drunk in moderation.
