🍷 Brachetto d'Acqui
A sweet red sparkling wine from Piedmont with a scent of roses.
Brachetto d'Acqui is a sweet red sparkling wine from Piedmont in Italy. It is made from the local Brachetto grape in the hills around the town of Acqui Terme, in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. Since 1996 it has held Italy's top category, DOCG.
Its hallmark is the aroma. The glass smells of roses, strawberries and raspberries. The wine is light ruby, with soft bubbles and low alcohol, usually about 5–6.5%. The sweetness comes from the grapes: fermentation is stopped while the juice still holds a lot of sugar.
Brachetto d'Acqui comes fully sparkling (spumante) or semi-sparkling. There is also a rare passito version from dried grapes.
It is served chilled, often with berry and chocolate desserts. In style it is close to Asti, only red. Brachetto d'Acqui belongs to Italian wine and to the family of sparkling wines, including sparkling reds.
