📍 Valencian Community
A Mediterranean coast with Bobal and Muscat.
Valencia is an autonomous community on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Summers are warm and dry, winters mild. The wine area has several zones: Utiel-Requena, Alicante and Valencia, plus areas such as Castellón and Los Balagueses.
The best-known grape of the region is Bobal, a red with deep colour and bright acidity. Next to it grows Mourvèdre, which Spain calls Monastrell. Among whites, Muscat matters: it makes sweet wines, including Moscatel, and fresh dry ones.
Utiel-Requena is an inland, cooler area at altitude. Alicante lies closer to the sea and is known for Fondillón, a sweet aged wine. The Valencia area combines the zones. Many wines here are made cheap and simple, but in recent years the share of quality wines has grown. Valencia is part of Spanish wine as one of its vivid areas with a Mediterranean character.
