🏷️ Vintage-quality wine

Wine classification ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 3 Updated:

A Ukrainian and Moldovan category of aged quality wine from a specific area.

Vintage-quality wine (marochne) is a category of quality wine used in Ukraine and Moldova. It is made from a defined area and aged longer than ordinary wine. By the rules, table marochne wine is aged for at least one and a half years and fortified wine for at least two.

The category sits between ordinary wine, simple and inexpensive, and collection wine, which is aged even longer. Marochne wine is usually made from the best sites and grapes, and the label states the grape, the vintage and the origin.

A similar designation has been used in other countries of the region, for instance in Georgia. For a buyer it means the wine has had longer preparation and checks than an ordinary one. But it is not a guarantee of taste: look at the producer. Marochne wine belongs among wine classifications built on ageing time and the area where the grapes come from.
