🏷️ Collection wine
The best vintage wine, given extra ageing in bottle.
Collection wine is the top category of vintage-aged wine in Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. It is the best aged wine, which after barrel ageing is kept in bottles for at least another three years. Only then is it released for sale.
Aged (marochne) wine means wine from good grapes kept for a certain time. Collection wine stands above it: long bottle storage is added to barrel ageing. Time and conditions depend on the country and the type of wine. Select grapes and careful technology are chosen for it. The bottles are stored in special cellars at an even temperature, often on their sides.
The label shows the variety, the vintage and the place of origin. That is why collection wines are valued and bought as gifts or for a collection. In Ukraine they are tied to the tradition of Crimea and the Odesa region, in Moldova to the cellars of Cricova and Mileștii Mici, and in Georgia to the wines of Kakheti. The price is usually high, and the taste develops over time.
