A small district near Miskolc.

Bükk is a small wine area in northern Hungary, at the foot of the Bükk mountains, not far from Miskolc. It is part of Northern Hungary. The Bükk mountains are covered with beech forest and shelter the vineyards from cold winds, while the hills give a cool climate with a clear gap between day and night temperatures.

Soils vary: limestone, volcanic rocks, clay and loess. The climate is cooler than in southern Hungary, so whites are fresh with good acidity and reds light and fruity.

Grapes grown include Olaszrizling (Welschriesling) and Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), along with others, including international varieties. Wines are mostly simple and local, and are more often drunk on the spot than exported.

The area attracts visitors: a national park and the city of Miskolc are nearby, and there are wine cellars in the surroundings. The better-known Eger, with its “Bull's Blood”, and Mátra lie next to the area. Bükk suits those who want something less familiar that still goes with Hungarian food such as goulash and smoked meats.
