📜 Crémant de Loire
Classic-method sparkling wine from Anjou, Saumur and Touraine.
Crémant de Loire is a French sparkling wine made by the classic method. The vineyards lie in the Loire valley, in the areas of Anjou, Saumur and Touraine. The name is protected as a geographical indication of the European Union and is listed in the eAmbrosia register.
The main grape is Chenin Blanc. Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, which goes into rosé wines, are also allowed. Like Champagne, Crémant de Loire goes through its second fermentation in the bottle and rests on its lees. This gives fine bubbles and a soft taste.
The wine can be white or rosé. Chenin Blanc gives it fresh acidity and notes of apple and flowers. Much sparkling wine is made in the Loire, and Crémant de Loire is one of the best-known names.
Crémant de Loire is often chosen as a more affordable alternative to Champagne. It is a separate wine with its own rules and its own taste. As with any alcohol, it should be drunk in moderation.
