🥃 Cynar 70 Proof

Spirit line ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 5 Updated:

The 35% ABV (70 proof) version of the Cynar brand, made with the same recipe of 13 infusions as the standard Cynar.

Cynar 70 Proof is the version of the Cynar brand at 35% ABV, which is 70 proof on the American scale. It is the same artichoke-based bitter liqueur, but twice as strong as the standard Cynar. Campari America launched it in the US in 2015 as a digestif, and catalogues also list it as Cynar 70 Liqueur.

According to Difford's Guide, the recipe is the same as the base version: 13 infused botanicals, but the strength and flavour intensity are doubled. A Drinkhacker review confirms that only the alcohol level differs, and describes a darker colour, a creamier body and a taste that opens with dark chocolate and cinnamon. It is produced by Davide Campari Novi Ligure in Italy.

Why it matters to you. The standard Cynar stays in the range, so choose by strength: Cynar 70 Proof suits small neat or chilled servings, or serves on ice, while the lighter Cynar suits longer drinks with soda. A similar bitter aperitif is Campari. WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
