🍇 Hárslevelű
A white wine grape from Hungary, the second grape of Tokaji wines.
Hárslevelű is a white wine grape from Hungary. The name means "linden leaf": by one version, the vine leaf looks like a linden leaf. In Tokaj this variety is considered second after Furmint. Together they form the base of the famous Tokaj wines.
In Tokaj blends Hárslevelű adds aroma and softness, while Furmint adds acidity and structure. It makes both sweet wines with noble rot and dry ones. The grape is also loved in other Hungarian areas: Debrő, Nagy-Somló, Mátra and Somló.
Hárslevelű grows outside Hungary too. In Slovakia it goes into the Tokaj wine of the Slovak area, and in Transcarpathia in Ukraine it is grown near Berehove. Its wines are usually aromatic, with shades of linden honey, pear and spices. It is one of the symbols of Hungarian wine.
