Highland Park Cask Strength is a cask-strength single malt Scotch whisky series from Highland Park, added to the permanent range in 2020. There is no age on the label; each release has a number and its own strength: Release No. 1 — 63.3 % ABV, Release No. 2 — 63.9 % ABV.
According to The Whiskey Wash, the whisky is bottled at full cask strength without dilution, and the annual batches are drawn from casks of different ages, so the taste changes from release to release. According to Fred Minnick, the second release of 2021 was made mainly from European and American oak casks seasoned with sherry, with a small share of ex-bourbon casks.
Why this matters to you. Compared with Highland Park 12 Year Old Viking Honour, this series differs mainly in strength: over 60 % ABV against 40 %. That is why the release number on the label matters more than the age, and one serving contains considerably more ethanol. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
