Hochland is a German family-owned cheese company from the Allgäu, best known for processed cheese.

It was founded in 1927 as the Hochland-Käsewerk in Goßholz near Lindenberg by the merchant Georg Summer and his brother-in-law Robert Reich. In 1931 the seat moved to Heimenkirch in the Westallgäu. A new plant started there in 1975, and in 2007 Hochland Deutschland GmbH moved into new premises in Heimenkirch. The company calls itself a family cheese dairy since 1927; the parent is Hochland SE (Hochland Group).

The brand's core range is processed cheese and cheese products. Hochland Sandwich Scheiben are processed cheese slices made with Gouda, Emmentaler, Cheddar or Butterkäse, on the market since 1999. Hochland Ecken are portion wedges of processed cheese: creamy (Sahnig), with Emmentaler and with Gouda.

The company also owns other cheese brands. Almette is an Alpine fresh cheese for spreading, made with Alpine milk and close to cream cheese. Grünländer is a semi-hard sliced cheese from pasteurised milk, naturally lactose-free.

How to use: Hochland slices go into sandwiches, toasties and burgers and melt well in hot dishes; Ecken wedges are spread on bread or taken along as a snack.

Hochland cheeses are made from cow's milk; processed cheese is made from natural cheese with emulsifying salts.
