🥃 Jim Beam Double Oak
Jim Beam version with two barrels: straight bourbon moved after the first maturation into a second new charred barrel; in the USA since September 2016.
Jim Beam Double Oak is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Jim Beam, matured in two barrels one after another. It was introduced in the USA in September 2016. The producer does not state a strength on its page, and there is no age on the label; the range and bottles, according to the producer, depend on the market.
According to the 2016 press release, reported by Beverage Information Group and Breaking Bourbon, the bourbon first matures for about four years in new freshly charred American oak barrels. It is then moved into new charred barrels and left to mature until it tastes right, with no fixed period. The second barrel, according to the producer, adds spicy oakiness and caramel.
Why this matters to you. Compared with Jim Beam Original this version differs not in age but in its second barrel, so the taste is more woody. Jim Beam Black, by contrast, matures longer in one barrel, and Jim Beam Devil's Cut strengthens the oak with liquid drawn from the staves. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
