🍾 Laurent-Perrier
Also known as: Champagne Laurent-Perrier
A Champagne house in Tours-sur-Marne (Marne), founded in 1812 by André-Michel Pierlot; run by the de Nonancourt family since 1939.
Laurent-Perrier is a Champagne house in Tours-sur-Marne, a grand cru village in the Marne department. According to the house, André-Michel Pierlot, a former cooper and bottler from Chigny-les-Roses, settled there in 1812 as a champagne merchant. His son Alphonse passed the firm to his cellar master Eugène Laurent; after Laurent’s death in 1887 his widow, Mathilde-Emilie Perrier, ran it and added her name, creating Veuve Laurent-Perrier. In 1889 she launched a “Grand Vin Sans Sucre”.
In 1939 Marie-Louise de Nonancourt bought the house; from 1948 her son Bernard de Nonancourt led it and, according to the house, shaped its style. The range includes La Cuvée, Cuvée Rosé, made by macerating Pinot Noir, the prestige Grand Siècle, released as numbered Iterations, Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature, Ultra Brut and vintage wines.
Champagne is a wine with a protected designation of origin (PDO). The bubbles come only from a second fermentation in the bottle, the wine is aged for at least 15 months before sale (36 for vintage), and all production takes place only within the delimited area. Laurent-Perrier is a brand; Champagne is the name of a place.
Why it matters to you. Brut nature on the label means the lowest sugar category under the rules, with no sugar added after the second fermentation; “Ultra Brut” or “Grand Siècle” are the house’s own names. The WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol.
