A Champagne house in Reims, founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck as the trading house Heidsieck & C°.

Heidsieck & Co Monopole is a Champagne house in Reims. According to Wikidata and the house, it was founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, a young draper from Westphalia. He set up a wool and wine trading firm in Reims called “Heidsieck & C°” but, according to the house, soon gave up wool to concentrate entirely on Champagne wines.

According to the house, its current range consists of three cuvées: Silver Top, White Top Premier Cru and the vintage Gold Top 2019. The house says it looks after its vineyards with care and that its style is set by its cellar master (chef de cave).

Champagne is a wine with a protected designation of origin (PDO). The bubbles come only from a second fermentation in the bottle, the wine is aged for at least 15 months before sale (36 for vintage), and all production takes place only within the delimited area. Heidsieck & Co Monopole is a brand; Champagne is the name of a place.

Why it matters to you. “Silver”, “White” or “Gold Top” are the house’s names, not categories. What counts is something else: a harvest year on the label means a vintage wine aged for at least 36 months, and premier cru means grapes from villages classified as premiers crus. The WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol.
