🍇 Negroamaro

Grape variety ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 3 Updated:

A red grape from southern Italy that makes dark, soft reds and rosés.

Negroamaro is a red grape from southern Italy, from Puglia. It grows mostly in Salento, on the “heel” of Italy’s boot. The name means “black-black” or “black and bitter”: the berries are very dark. Red and rosé wines are made from it.

Summers in Salento are hot and dry, and Negroamaro stands the heat well. The wine is dark, full and soft, with aromas of black berries, plum, spice and smoke. Many protected wines are made from it: Salice Salentino, Copertino, Alezio, Leverano, Matino, Nardo, Brindisi and Galatina. It is often blended with Malvasia Nera di Brindisi.

Negroamaro also gives rosé wine, fresh and dry, which is especially loved in Salento.

Negroamaro belongs to Italian wine and to Puglia. The red is served with meat, pasta and cheese, and the rosé with fish and starters. Alcohol is for adults.
