📜 Salice Salentino
A well-known Negroamaro red from the Salento peninsula.
Salice Salentino is a well-known red wine from the Italian region of Apulia, from the Salento peninsula in the "heel" of Italy's boot. It is a protected designation of origin (PDO). The main grape is Negroamaro, whose name is often translated as "black and bitter". Red Salice Salentino is based on it. Rosé and white wines are also allowed, as are still wines without bubbles. The climate is hot and dry, winds from two seas soften the heat, and the soils are reddish and clayey. The red wine is dark and full, with soft tannins and notes of black berries, plum and spice. It is often aged, which makes it softer. The rosé is pale and fresh. The name comes from the village of Salice Salentino and stresses the geography of Salento. The wine goes well with grilled meat, cured sausages and dishes with tomato sauce, as is usual in southern Italy.
