🥃 Nonino ÙE
Nonino grape distillate line since 1984: whole grapes with skins, pulp and juice are distilled in one operation; not grappa.
Nonino ÙE is a line of grape distillates from the Nonino brand. Unlike grappa, which is made from pomace, here whole grapes are distilled: skins, pulp and juice in one operation. The Nonino family first made ÙE on 27 November 1984; production was allowed by a separate ministerial decree.
According to the producer, the grapes are fermented in steel tanks without access to air and distilled right away in small batches in copper pot stills. For example, ÙE Uvabianca, a blend of separately distilled spirits from the white varieties Moscato, Malvasia and Ribolla, rests for six to twelve months in steel; its strength is 38% vol. The line also includes versions aged in wood.
Why this matters to you. ÙE is not grappa, so do not confuse it with Nonino Il Moscato or Nonino Tradizione: the taste of the whole grape is softer and fruitier. Strength and ageing depend on the version, so check the label. WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
