🥃 Nonino AnticaCuvée Riserva
Aged Nonino grappa: a blend of grappas 5 to 20 years old in French barriques and small sherry casks; 43% vol.
Nonino AnticaCuvée Riserva is an aged grappa from the Nonino brand, marked “Aged 5 Years”. It is a blend of grappas that spent five to twenty years in oak, so it is amber, unlike the clear Tradizione and Il Moscato. The strength is 43% vol.
According to the producer, the base is selected fresh pomace, distilled in small batches in copper pot stills, with heads and tails cut. The grappa then matures in barriques made of Limousin, Nevers and Grésigne oak, and in small sherry casks. The youngest grappa in the blend is five years old, the oldest twenty. According to Difford's Guide, the colour is natural, with no caramel.
Why this matters to you. Comparing AnticaCuvée with Nonino Tradizione shows what an oak cask adds: vanilla, dried fruit and nuts instead of fresh grape aroma. The number on the label is the minimum age of the grappa in the blend. WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
