A district in the Vrancea zone.

Odobești is a wine district in eastern Romania, in Vrancea County, at the foot of the Carpathians. It belongs to the large Moldavian Hills zone. Vrancea is the largest wine-growing area of Romania, and Odobești is one of its oldest districts.

The local pride is the white Galbenă de Odobești (Romanian for yellow of Odobești), grown almost only here. It makes light, fresh wines with floral aromas. Besides it, Fetească Albă (white) and the red Fetească Neagră (black) grow, as well as international varieties.

Vineyards lie on slopes facing south and east, with the Carpathians sheltering them from cold winds. The climate is continental with hot summers. The hills shelter the vines from wind, and a long warm autumn helps the berries ripen.

Odobești is part of the Moldavian Hills and of Romania. Nearby lie the districts of Panciu and Cotești, which together make up the Vrancea zone. Galbenă de Odobești suits summer dishes, vegetables and light snacks. The name Odobești on a label shows that the grapes grew in this very area, which makes it easy to look for similar wines.
