Pâtes Grand'Mère
The Alsatian egg pasta brand of the Heimburger family company in Marlenheim, making pasta since 1933 with seven fresh eggs per kilogram of semolina.
Pâtes Grand'Mère is the Alsatian pasta brand of Heimburger, a family company in Marlenheim. Its story began in 1933, when Robert Heimburger, a native of Marlenheim, started making egg pasta alongside bread and pastries in his bakery in Sarreguemines. In 1940 he returned to his home village, and in 1946–1947 he built the first part of the factory in Marlenheim and launched the La Colombe brand. In 1955 the company began industrial production of spätzle.
The Grand'Mère brand was launched in 1970: pasta with seven fresh eggs per kilogram of top-grade durum wheat semolina — the traditional recipe of Pâtes d'Alsace, which obtained the IGP geographical indication in 2001. Today the company is run by Philippe Heimburger with his daughter Agathe; according to the firm it employs about 90 people, produces around 13,000 tonnes of pasta a year and exports 20% of it. It holds the Alsace Excellence label.
The catalogue shows several ranges: Classiques (traditional recipe; shapes in the catalogue include spaghetti, linguine, penne, macaroni and farfalle), Spécialités (Alsatian gastronomy, with shapes such as spätzle and nests), Mini-pâtes (for example mini penne and mini coquillettes), the 3-minute Cuisson rapide (spaghetti, curly noodles, macaroni, coquillettes), Soupes et potages and the wholegrain Complètes. The brand also names its Terroir range (certified IGP Pâtes d'Alsace, French ingredients), L'Alsacienne (100% Alsatian ingredients) and organic versions.
