Président Camembert
Président Camembert is the Président (Lactalis) range of Camembert made from pasteurised cow's milk at Domfront in Normandy.
Président Camembert is the Camembert range of the Président brand of the Lactalis group, the product with which the brand started in 1968. These are soft, bloomy-rind cheeses made from pasteurised cow's milk.
The classic Président Camembert is made at the Domfront dairy in the Orne department of Normandy from French milk. Michel Besnier was one of the first to make Camembert from pasteurised milk here, so that it would be affordable for a wide range of shoppers.
The range includes Camembert Classique, Camembert de Campagne, Petit Camembert, the portioned Camembert 8 portions and the organic Camembert Bio engagé, as well as Palets Camembert and Crème de Camembert. Unlike the protected Camembert de Normandie, which may only be made from raw milk, these cheeses have no PDO status.
Président Camembert is served on cheese boards and in sandwiches, baked in the oven or on the barbecue and added to salads. Keep it in the fridge in its original pack and let it warm up a little before serving so that the centre softens.
