Ruchottes-Chambertin is one of the smallest red grands crus of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy. The vineyard lies on stony soil in the Côte de Nuits. The name is protected as a geographical indication of the European Union and is listed in the eAmbrosia register.
The wine is made from Pinot Noir. It is still, meaning without bubbles. Ruchottes-Chambertin is seen as finer and more aristocratic in style than some of its neighbours. The stony soil gives the wine minerality and elegance, not only power.
Grand cru is the top level of Burgundy vineyards. Gevrey-Chambertin has several, all close together: Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin and others. Ruchottes-Chambertin occupies a small slope above the main zone.
