🥃 Senior & Co Blue Curaçao
Blue line of Senior & Co: orange liqueur made from laraha peel, 31% ABV; the flavour is the same as in the colourless version.
Senior & Co Blue Curaçao is the blue line of Senior & Co and, according to the company, the only Blue Curaçao still made from laraha peel. The producer describes the flavour as sweet, rich and complex, with candied orange and bitter peel. The strength is 31% ABV, in bottles of 375 and 750 ml.
The base is the same as in the colourless curaçao: laraha peel, spices, cane spirit and sugar. The colour comes from a certified dye added after filtration. According to the producer, there is no reliable information on the origin of blue curaçao. Difford’s Guide writes that all coloured versions of Senior have the same flavour and 31%.
Why this matters to you. The blue colour does not mean a different taste or strength, so compare by the label, not by the colour. Blue curaçao often ends up in Blue Lagoon, Blue Hawaii and Blue Margarita. It is stronger than many liqueurs. The producer adds that it is often used as a colouring agent in cocktails. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
