The Deveron 12 Year Old is the younger whisky in the core range under which the Macduff distillery sells its own single malt. Bacardi presented it in September 2015 together with the 18-year-old, and it went on sale in October. Its strength is 40 % ABV, according to Bacardi and The Whiskey Wash.
The whisky is made from barley malt at the distillery in Banff, where the River Deveron meets the North Sea. According to Bacardi, five small copper stills with unusual horizontal condensers are used. Difford's Guide writes about aging in ex-American whisky barrels, and Scotchnoob about a mix of bourbon and sherry casks. The producer describes the taste as toasted grain, apple and sea spice.
Why it matters to you. It is the simplest way to get to know the light, fruity style of Macduff. The Deveron 18 Year Old has the same strength but longer aging and nutty notes. A 10-year-old bottling was sold only in France. WHO reminds us: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
