Distillery and single malt whisky brand in Speyside, in production since 1897 according to Bacardi; part of Dewar's; owned by Bacardi (John Dewar & Sons).

Aultmore is a distillery and single malt Scotch whisky brand in Speyside. According to Bacardi, it went into production in 1897; its founder was Alexander Edward, described as a local businessman and philanthropist. It is one of the five single malt distilleries of Dewar's and is owned by Bacardi.

Character. According to Bacardi, the distillery's water filters down through the misty Foggie Moss. The whisky is known locally as “a nip of the Buckie Road” and is praised for its gentle grassy notes.

Range and growth. In 2014 John Dewar & Sons launched Aultmore as part of its Last Great Malts collection: a 12-year-old, a 21-year-old for travel retail and a limited 25-year-old. In 2022 Bacardi, which had owned the distillery for almost 25 years, announced a £15 million expansion, including more pot stills, to double capacity by spring 2024.

Why this matters to you. Check the age on the label, because 12, 21 and 25 years are different whiskies. Single malt Scotch is made at one distillery from water and malted barley in pot stills, matured for at least 3 years in oak casks of up to 700 litres and bottled at 40% vol. or more. The WHO states that there is no safe amount of alcohol for health.
