📜 Vacqueyras
A village in the southern Rhône Valley next to Gigondas, with rich red wines.
Vacqueyras is a village and a protected appellation in the southern Rhône valley of France. It lies next to another well-known appellation, Gigondas. Mostly red wines are made here, though there are also whites and rosés.
Red Vacqueyras is rich and warm, with notes of dark berries and spice. It is blended from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, the same grapes used in other villages of the Southern Rhône. The vineyards stand on slopes and terraces with plenty of sun and dry wind. Summers are hot, so the berries gather a lot of sugar.
Vacqueyras belongs to the Southern Rhône area. The wine is made still, without bubbles. The red goes well with meat, stews and hard cheese. Young wines are drunk a few years after harvest, and the best can keep longer. These wines can be found in many good wine shops.
