The south-east, where Cerasuolo di Vittoria is made.

Vittoria is a wine zone in south-eastern Sicily, around the town of Vittoria in the province of Ragusa. It is part of Sicily. This is where Cerasuolo di Vittoria is made, the only Sicilian wine of the top DOCG category. The appellation became a DOC in 1973 and a DOCG in 2005, the first DOCG on the island.

Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a red wine from two local grapes: Nero d'Avola (called Calabrese here) makes up 50 to 70%, and the rest is Frappato. Nero d'Avola gives body and tannin, while Frappato gives floral aroma and lightness. The minimum alcohol is 13%. The land here is sandy and reddish, and the climate is warm and breezy.

The area of the appellation is the same as that of Vittoria DOC, but the rules there are looser: other proportions of grapes are allowed, and even a white wine from Ansonica. So Vittoria means both a strict red DOCG and simpler wines of the same name.

It is the only Sicilian region with the top classification, and it is proud of it.
