Chassagne-Montrachet is a village in the south of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, known for white wines from Chardonnay. Red wines from Pinot Noir are also made here, but the whites are the famous ones. The village lies on slopes next to Puligny-Montrachet.
White Chassagne-Montrachet is powerful and rich, with aromas of nuts, butter, citrus and white flowers, and grows deeper with age. The reds are dense, with aromas of dark berries and spice. Within the village are several famous grand crus: part of Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as many premier cru sites.
The Chassagne-Montrachet name covers still wines, both red and white. The village belongs to the Côte de Beaune, an area known for the finest white Burgundies.
