📜 Clos Saint-Denis
A red grand cru from Pinot Noir in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis.
Clos Saint-Denis is a grand cru red wine from the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, in the Côte de Nuits, in Burgundy. It is made from Pinot Noir. The word “Clos” means an enclosed plot, and Saint-Denis is the name of the village and of a saint.
The vineyard is small and lies on a slope above the village. The soil is limestone with clay, and the slope faces east, so the berries warm well in the morning. Burgundy vineyards are divided into classes, and grand cru is the highest. The label shows the name of the plot, and the word “Burgundy” is not needed.
The wine can be delicate and aromatic, with notes of red berries, flowers and earth, and with time hints of spice and mushroom appear. When young it can be firm and is better aged for several years. It is served with game, poultry and cheese.
Clos Saint-Denis is among the great reds of the Côte de Nuits. Other grand crus lie nearby, such as Clos de la Roche and Bonnes-Mares. Alcohol is for adults.
