🍾 Delamotte

Delamotte is a Champagne house in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger on the Côte des Blancs. According to the house, it was founded in 1760 in Reims by François Delamotte, a Reims wine merchant and vineyard owner in Cumières; his eldest son Alexandre joined him to create “Delamotte Père & Fils”. The youngest son, Nicolas-Louis, returned from Malta after the Order of Malta was dissolved following Bonaparte's conquest in 1798 and joined the house, and the Order's eight-pointed cross was added to the coat of arms; the family motto is “Vive et me ama”.

According to the house, in 1927 Marie-Louise de Nonancourt revived Delamotte in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. In 1988 her son Bernard de Nonancourt brought Delamotte into the Laurent-Perrier group and bought the neighbouring house of Salon; since 1997 Didier Depond has managed both houses. The house's Brut spends 36 months on the lees and is a blend of 60 % Chardonnay, 35 % Pinot Noir and 5 % Pinot Meunier.

Champagne is a wine with a protected designation of origin (AOC/PDO); under its rules the wine goes through a second fermentation in the bottle. Delamotte is a brand; Champagne is the name of a place.
