Entremont is a French cheese brand whose story began with Emmental from Haute-Savoie. Since 2011 it has belonged to Sodiaal, France's largest dairy cooperative, and the brand's website is run on behalf of Entremont Alliance and Sodiaal International.
In 1948 the three Entremont brothers in Haute-Savoie started an Emmental trading business, and in 1950 they began ripening and selling it: the first wheels bearing their name travelled from Alpine pastures to cellars in Annecy. Since 1972 the brand has sold pre-packed cheeses; in the early 1990s came the Dégustation recipe, ripened in Côtes-d'Armor from milk of Breton farmers. In 1993 and 1996 Entremont bought Juragruyère (Emmental and Comté) and Stegmann (Germany), and in 2018 it launched organic Emmental.
Today Entremont cheeses fall into four groups: grated cheeses (Entremont Râpés — Emmental, Comté, Gruyère, a 4-cheese mix and a pizza mix), cheese-board cheeses (Plateaux), slices (Tranches) and cheeses for raclette and fondue (Raclette & Compagnie). The main raw material is cow's milk from French farmers who are members of the cooperative.
Entremont Emmental is French Emmental, not Swiss Emmentaler AOP; for Comté the brand uses the protected cheese from the Jura. Entremont cheeses are traditionally used in gratins, pasta, pizza, raclette and fondue.
