🏭 Filiz
Turkish pasta brand founded in Bolu in 1974; part of the Barilla Group since 1994, making pasta from Turkish durum wheat.
Filiz is a Turkish pasta brand. The company Filiz Gıda was founded in 1974 in Bolu, in north-western Turkey. In 1994 it began working with the Italian company Barilla, took the name Barilla Gıda and became part of the Barilla Group.
The raw material is durum wheat grown in Turkey. The brand's website names the main areas it is sourced from: Tekirdağ, Konya, Gaziantep, Mardin and Şanlıurfa. The grain is milled in Bolu, where the company's millers created their own blend, Özel Harman, and the dough is made with water from the Bolu mountains. In 2020 Filiz committed to making all of its pasta from Turkish wheat only; to do so it works with academic institutions, experts and hundreds of farmers.
The website lists four pasta ranges. Klasik is dry durum wheat pasta in 17 formats: spaghetti, burgu (spirals like fusilli), kalem (like penne), fiyonk (bows like farfalle), dirsek (elbows), arpa şehriye (similar to orzo), tel şehriye (fine vermicelli) and more. Yumurtalı is egg pasta, including erişte, Turkish noodles. Sebzeli is pasta with spinach and tomato powders. Tam Buğday is wholewheat pasta. Besides pasta, the brand sells semolina (irmik) milled at its Bolu mills and bulgur from Mardin, which carries a geographical indication.
