L'Affiné de Saint Albray

Cheese range ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 2 Updated:

L'Affiné de Saint Albray is the stronger version of Saint Albray cheese (Savencia) for the cheese counter: a 2.1 kg flower-shaped wheel with a central hole.

L'Affiné de Saint Albray is the Saint Albray range of the Savencia group for the cheese counter. It is the same soft cow's milk cheese from Jurançon (Béarn), but with a stronger, more characterful taste than the creamy self-service version.

The cheese comes as a large flower-shaped wheel weighing 2.1 kg. The wheel has a hole in the centre which, according to the brand, helps the cheese ripen right to the core and makes the paste more tender. The rind is reddish-white and the paste creamy. 100 g contain about 29 g of fat and 20 g of protein.

In Germany and Austria a similar, stronger version is sold in a 180 g format as Saint Albray L'Intense.

A wedge of L'Affiné is served at the end of a meal on a cheese board or at aperitif time, and it can be baked in gratins. Jurançon wines and nut bread go well with it. Keep it in the fridge in cheese paper.
