🥃 Licor 43 Original
The classic Licor 43 line: a Spanish vanilla liqueur with 43 Mediterranean ingredients; 31% ABV according to Difford's Guide.
Licor 43 Original is the classic golden line of Spanish liqueur, from which the other flavoured versions derive. According to Difford's Guide, it is a vanilla liqueur with 43 herbs and spices from across the Mediterranean, with 31% ABV. The recipe is kept secret; only five ingredients are known.
Production. The ingredients are infused, and the infusion then rests in stainless steel tanks for up to nine months. The liquid is then chilled to minus five degrees for five days and microfiltered. According to Difford's Guide, the known ingredients include orange, vanilla, lemon, coriander and tea. The producer, Diego Zamora S.A., works in Murcia; the brand refers to an old family recipe.
Why it matters to you. Original is the base from which Baristo, Horchata and Chocolate are made, and it is the strongest of these lines: 31% against 16% for Horchata and Chocolate. The number 43 in the name is the number of ingredients, not the strength, so check the label. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
