🚚 Logistics jobs

Logistics jobs are the jobs in collecting, transporting, storing and delivering milk and dairy products. Milk logistics is the collection, transport, storage and delivery of milk and dairy products so that they do not spoil. Raw milk is highly perishable, so it is chilled right after milking and taken to the plant in insulated tankers. Milk tanker drivers are often also responsible for taking samples when collecting milk at the farm.

According to the FAO, in smallholder farming in developing countries, milk collection and cooling centres, where farmers deliver small volumes, play a major role. After the plant, products pass through temperature-controlled warehouses, distribution centres and delivery to shops. Logisticians plan routes, warehouse staff keep track of shelf life and dispatch order, and refrigeration technicians maintain an unbroken cold chain.

Long-life products — UHT milk, milk powder, condensed milk — make logistics much simpler: they can be shipped over long distances without refrigeration. That is why milk powder is one of the main dairy commodities in world trade, although, according to the FAO, most of the world’s dairy products are consumed in the country where they are produced.
