🍇 Parellada

Grape variety ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 3

A white Catalan grape; one of the three main grapes of cava.

Parellada is a white wine grape from Catalonia, Spain. It is one of the three main grapes of Cava, the Spanish sparkling wine. The other two are Macabeo and Xarel·lo. Parellada adds lightness and delicate aromas to the wine. It grows mainly in Penedès and Conca de Barberà. It likes cool places, so it is planted on higher sites. The berries ripen late and keep fresh acidity. The wine is pale, low in alcohol, with notes of flowers, green apple and citrus. For Cava the grape is good because of the acidity a sparkling wine needs. Parellada is blended with Macabeo and Xarel·lo, and each brings something of its own: Macabeo gives body, Xarel·lo earthy notes, and Parellada finesse. It also appears in the still white wines of Catalonia. The grape shows well how different varieties complement each other in Spanish sparkling wine to create the single taste of Cava.
