📜 Rosé d'Anjou
A soft, semi-sweet rosé from Anjou.
Rosé d'Anjou is a soft, off-dry rosé wine from the Anjou area in the Loire valley of France. It is a protected appellation. The wine is pale pink, light, with notes of red berries and flowers. It is pleasant, not too strong, and suits those who do not like sharp tastes.
Several grapes are used: Grolleau, Cabernet Franc and Gamay. Grolleau gives lightness, Cabernet Franc aroma, and Gamay fruitiness. The grape juice has brief contact with the skins, so the wine takes only a light pink colour. Fermentation is stopped while a little sugar remains, so the wine is off-dry. Rosé d'Anjou is served chilled.
Rosé d'Anjou belongs to Anjou-Saumur. Nearby are the red Saumur-Champigny and white wines. Off-dry rosé goes well with light snacks, salads, Asian food and fruit desserts. In recent years its popularity has dropped, but it remains a common style of the Loire. Like any alcohol, it is best drunk in moderation.
