🍷 Beaujolais nouveau
A young red wine from Gamay released on the third Thursday of November.
Beaujolais Nouveau is a young red wine from the Beaujolais region of France. It is made from the Gamay grape. It goes on sale very soon after the harvest: on the third Thursday of November. On that night festivals of the first wine take place in many countries.
For this wine, carbonic maceration is used. Whole bunches are put in a closed tank with carbon dioxide, and fermentation begins inside the berries. This gives bright, fruity, soft wines with almost no tannin. Only a few weeks pass from harvest to bottle.
The taste of Beaujolais Nouveau is light: strawberry, raspberry, banana, bubblegum. The wine is drunk slightly chilled, in the first months. It is not meant for ageing.
Beaujolais Nouveau is a kind of nouveau, a young wine of the first harvest. It differs from the Beaujolais cru wines such as Fleurie, which are more serious, fuller and keep longer.
