Dos Hombres Espadín is the first and main mezcal of the Dos Hombres brand, launched in July 2019. It is a young (joven) mezcal made from 100% espadín agave, with no time in wood. Its strength is 42 % ABV, according to The Spirits Business and Paste Magazine.
The mezcal is made in the village of San Luis del Río in Oaxaca. According to The Spirits Business, the master mezcalero in charge is Gregorio Velasco, third generation in his family. Paste Magazine writes that the agave is harvested at six years of age. The hearts are baked in earth pits, crushed with a tahona stone wheel, fermented for 7 to 10 days and distilled in copper pot stills. These methods fit the artesanal category under the NOM-070 standard.
Why it matters to you. This is the only mezcal of the brand in its permanent range: Tobalá, made from wild agave, came out in small batches and sold out quickly. If you prefer a softer tequila without the smoke of the earth oven, compare it with Dos Hombres Blanco, made from blue agave. WHO reminds us: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
