🥃 Galliano L'Aperitivo
Galliano bitter aperitif on citrus infusions and L'Autentico herbs; 24% ABV per Difford's Guide.
Galliano L'Aperitivo is the bitter aperitif of the Galliano brand in the amaro style. According to Difford's Guide, it is a red Italian bitter at 24% ABV, slightly lighter in body than Campari but more bitter; its colour is raspberry red. The brand's website promises a fresh citrus start and a long, bittersweet finish.
Production. According to the brand's website, the base is extracts and infusions of Mediterranean citrus fruits (orange, bergamot, bitter orange, chinotto, mandarin and grapefruit), to which a little of the L'Autentico herb blend is added. The ingredients are macerated and rested for at least two weeks; the producer does not give proportions. Difford's Guide adds notes of orange and grapefruit peel, cherry, black pepper, quinine and vanilla.
Why this matters to you. L'Aperitivo is the most bitter Galliano line, and it is made for mixing: the website suggests Negroni, Americano, Spritz and tonic. It is therefore better chosen for cocktails than for drinking neat. Compare it with Campari and Aperol for bitterness and colour. The WHO reminds us that no level of alcohol is safe.
