🍇 Grenache Blanc
A white mutation of Grenache, grown in Spain and southern France.
Grenache Blanc is the white mutation of red Grenache. A mutation is a chance change in the vine that makes the berries lose their colour. The variety comes from Spain, and today it is grown in Spain and southern France.
Wines from Grenache Blanc are usually full and soft, with low acidity and notes of ripe fruit, flowers and herbs. They are often fairly strong. The vine likes warmth and a dry climate and tolerates heat well. It is grown in Catalonia: in Terra Alta, where it is the main grape, and in Empordà. In France it is found in Roussillon and goes into the white wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Southern Rhône.
It is made into dry white wines and sometimes blended with other grapes. Served chilled, it goes with fish, seafood and poultry. Grenache Blanc belongs to Spanish wine and to the Mediterranean grapevine varieties.
