🍇 Grillo
A white wine grape of Sicily, used for Marsala and dry wines.
Grillo is a white wine grape from Sicily, the island in southern Italy. It is a local variety that was widely used for Marsala, the fortified wine of western Sicily. Today Grillo is also made into dry white wines, and they are becoming more popular.
The variety is a cross of two others: Catarratto and Muscat of Alexandria. Both grow well in Sicily,. The berries are large with thick skin and stand heat and sun well.
Dry Grillo wine is pale and fresh, with aromas of citrus, white flowers, pear and tropical fruit. It often has a hint of salt or mineral taste, especially if the vineyards are near the sea. It goes with fish, seafood and pasta with vegetables.
Grillo is part of the wines of several Sicilian names, such as Alcamo, Contessa Entellina, Mamertino and Marsala. It belongs to fortified wines and to the wine of Sicily in general. Alcohol is for adults.
