Volcanic hills along the Elbe.

Litoměřice is a wine subregion in northern Czechia, in Bohemia, around the town of Litoměřice on the Elbe (Labe in Czech). It lies not far from Prague and belongs to the Bohemia wine region, which is much smaller than Moravia. Vineyards lie on hillsides of volcanic origin in the Central Bohemian Uplands.

The climate is cooler than in Moravia, but south-facing slopes get plenty of sun. Soils are volcanic, basalt and clay, as well as marl. Summers are moderate, so whites prevail.

The main grapes are Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Traminer and Pinot Blanc, and among reds Pinot Noir and St. Laurent. The wines are fresh and light with bright acidity. Vineyards around Litoměřice have been known since the 10th to 11th centuries, and the town was long a centre of Czech winemaking. Later the Emperor Charles IV supported winegrowing in the area.

Litoměřice is part of Bohemia and of Czech winemaking. If Velké Pavlovice is known for reds, Litoměřice is known for whites, often more delicate in style. The district's whites suit fish and light dishes, and dry Rieslings vegetables. The name Litoměřice on a label shows that the grapes grew in this very area, which makes it easy to look for similar wines.
