🗺️ Czech wine
The country's wine and winemaking: regions, grapes and appellations.
Czech wine is the wine of Czechia, a country in central Europe. The vineyards divide into two areas: Moravia and Bohemia. The vast majority lie in Moravia, in the south of the country, where the climate is warmer. Bohemia, in the north, is a smaller region with cooler conditions.
Czechia grows international varieties as well as its own. Czech breeders have created many new varieties: Pálava, Ariana, Vesna, Florianka, Aurelius, Malverina, Rubinet, Vidok, Vítra, Sevar, Agni and others. There are reds and whites. Some of them are disease-resistant. Among reds are Neronet and Rubinet. Dry, sweet and sparkling wines are made.
The country has an appellation system: there are wines with a Czech Prädikat (based on the sugar of the juice) and wines of the VOC category, meaning original certified wines. Seasonal drinks are popular: young wine, burčák and federweisser, drunk in autumn. Czech wine is counted among the wines of Europe and is mostly consumed within the country, so it is less known abroad.
