Société 1863
Société 1863 is the main Roquefort AOP range of the Société brand, made from raw sheep's milk and ripened in the caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon.
Société 1863 is the main Roquefort AOP range of the Société brand (Lactalis group), named after the year the brand was registered. Roquefort is a blue cheese made from raw sheep's milk which, under the PDO rules, ripens in the caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon.
Société ripens the cheeses of this range in its own caves in the Combalou mountain, where natural fissures called “fleurines” provide a constant flow of air and humidity. The cheese has a creamy paste with blue-green veins of mould and a salty, sharp taste.
The range comes as 100 g and 200 g pieces, 4×25 g portions and 150 g in the Cave Saveur pack. Société created this pack in 2000 to better protect and keep Roquefort on self-service shelves, and it won a packaging award (“Oscar de l'emballage”).
Société 1863 Roquefort is served on a cheese board with pear, walnuts and sweet wine, crumbled into salads and added to sauces for meat, mussels and pasta. Keep it in the fridge in foil or its original pack, away from strong-smelling foods.
