📍 Three Lakes
The area around lakes Neuchâtel, Biel and Murten.
Three Lakes is a wine zone in western Switzerland around three lakes: Neuchâtel, Biel and Murten. The lakes soften the climate and reflect light onto the slopes, so the vine gets more warmth.
The zone includes the areas of Neuchâtel, Lake Biel and Vully, plus part of the canton of Jura. The main varieties are Pinot Noir, Chasselas, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Chasselas is a white grape that makes light, fresh wines. Pinot Noir gives reds and rosés, among them the well-known "Œil-de-Perdrix" ("partridge eye"), the rosé of Neuchâtel.
Three Lakes is part of Swiss wine as one of its zones, not the largest but with a clear identity. Vineyards lie on hillsides above the water, and the view of the lakes makes the area popular with visitors. The wines are mostly drunk in Switzerland, and little is exported.
