🍷 Tokaji Szamorodni
Tokaji from whole bunches including the rotted berries; it can be dry or sweet.
Szamorodni is a Hungarian type of Tokaji wine. The name comes from Polish and Rusyn and means "as it grew". The wine is made from whole bunches together with berries affected by noble rot, without picking berry by berry. This sets it apart from Tokaji Aszú and Eszencia, where berries are selected.
Szamorodni is aged for at least two years. It comes in two types. Dry Szamorodni often matures under a yeast layer, like sherry, and takes on a nutty, lightly oxidised taste. Sweet Szamorodni is made when the bunches carry many affected berries. The wine is golden, with notes of honey, dried fruit and nuts.
Szamorodni belongs to Tokaji wine and to Hungarian wine. Beside it stand the sweet Aszú and Eszencia. In Hungary and in Slovakia, which also has a Tokaj area, this is regarded as one of the traditional wines. It is served chilled with pâté, cheese and desserts, in small glasses.
