A lighter sweet Tokaji made from late-picked grapes.

Tokaji late harvest is a lighter sweet Tokaji wine made from late-picked grapes. It is produced in the Tokaj wine region in north-eastern Hungary. In Hungarian it is called "késői szüret", meaning "late harvest".

Grapes are left on the vine longer than usual, and the berries gain more sugar; sometimes noble rot develops on them. The main grapes of the region are Furmint and Hárslevelű. They give a wine with sweetness, but not as thick and expensive as the famous Tokaji Aszú. It is simpler, more accessible and usually drunk sooner.

The taste is fresh, with aromas of honey, apricot and citrus, and bright acidity that keeps the wine from being cloying. Late harvest belongs to Tokaji wines and to Hungarian wine. Next to it stands plain "late harvest" as a general way of making sweet wine: grapes are picked later. Tokaji late harvest is served chilled with desserts, fruit and pâtés.
